Espineli Legacy Video - 20 Minutes

I envision a title card similar to this, over sunset or Sunrise B-roll taken at the beach near the ReUNion.

The video references had subtitles that mentioned the subject's age, like “____ - a 90 year legacy”. I thought about it, and to avoid referencing any specific OG, I looked up when Nanay and Tatay were born, since their decision to raise god-fearing, studious children set in motion much of what gave everyone the fortitude to emigrate to the US. For Nanay, the oldest, it’s been about 118 years, so an alternate title could be “The Espineli Family: a 118 year LEagcy.” It’s not as nice and round as 90, but it’s an option.

Because we have several months until the Reunion, I’d love to get out to as many of the OGs’ homes as possible (on my dime) and get individual interviews with them as well as some Great B-roll in their spaces that they’ve curated, doing hobbies, living well, and showing off some of the things they’re most proud of. I’d also like to get as much b-Roll of meaningful physical photos and objects as possible (Like Lola’s Scrapbooks). I want every frame of B-roll to be fraught with meaning and History. It would feel a little like these images.

For the Interviews, I like the casual style of the video Reference, but I noticed background noise and didn’t enjoy the obvious lavalier microphone in the shots. For ours, we will use a shotgun mic mounted discreetly off camera. I think getting interviews anywhere we can during the reunion is probably the best option. They will work well even if it’s a little run-and-gun.

Here’s an edited frame from one of the reference videos to show you how I’d prefer they look.

I think we shouldn’t limit our coverage just to the Happy Hour/Dinner. I’d be available to capture moments with the oGs as they come throughout the Reunion, but there are a couple of things I’d like to manufacture:
1. I’d love to get the OGs to play a Card game together with a mix of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Something that will elicit a lot of smiles and excitement!
2. I’d like to get them and a larger group to fix up some favorite dishes. Maybe something some little ones could help out with.
3. I’d like to get them down to the beach or somewhere else beautiful in nature.

It would feel a bit like these images.

I see the 20-minute runtime of the video made up of roughly 5 minutes of interviews and b-roll of the OGs at home with their special routines, objects, and memories, 5 Minutes of B-roll of the Reunion as a whole, 5 minutes of the reunion interviews, and 5 minutes of special OG moments we manufacture. all of which would be overlaid with the stories told in the interviews and some nice, non-invasive music.

Here are a few more images that feel like what I’m hoping to capture. I hope you can see where I’m coming from, and I welcome any ideas from the group!

Thank you!
